X INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND EXPERT FORUM, THE PRIMAKOV READINGS
The Primakov Readings Youth Session is organised by the Primakov Center and Young Scholars Council of IMEMO under the aegis of the forum. The idea to create the Primakov Readings Youth Session emerged in 2017. The purpose of the event is to disseminate the intellectual heritage of the outstanding researcher and statesman Yevgeny Primakov and support young scholars of international relations. Every year the geography of the project expands and the number of participants increases, but the relevance and topical character of the questions raised by young scholars in their papers and reports remains unchanged.
The Youth Session of the Primakov Readings Forum 2024 will be held in Moscow on 22−27 June. The forum is titled 'Russia in Changing World Order: Challenges and Opportunities'. Based on the results of the applications process, we will determine a list of participants, who will have the opportunity to present a report at one of the panels of the Primakov Readings Youth Session, take part in workshops with leading specialists from IMEMO and other organisations, as well as participate in the Primakov Readings international forum. They will have the chance to meet prominent experts, government officials, and representatives of the business community.

On 25-26 June 2024, the World Trade Center will host the semi-digital X International Scientific and Expert Forum, the Primakov Readings: a discussion platform for analysing problems of world economy, politics and security with the participation of leading representatives of Russian and foreign research centers and think tanks. This year, the forum will be held for the tenth time and will coincide with the 95th anniversary of Evgeniy Primakov.

YOUTH SESSION OF THE PRIMAKOV READINGS FORUM
ELIGIBILITY
We invite graduate and postgraduate students, representatives of higher education institutions and research institutes, community-based and non-profit organisations, as well as independent experts aged from 21 to 35 years, who specialise in the issues of world economy and politics, international relations and security, international law, sociology and demography, and modern and contemporary history.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION
The organisers cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals for the competition winners. Consular fees for obtaining a Russian visa, travelling on the route from airport / railway station to hotel and to airport / railway station, medical insurance and PCR-test provided necessary are borne by the participants.
PARTICIPATION INSTRUCTIONS
In order to take part in the competition it is necessary to fill in an application form (the deadline for applications is 5 May 2024, 23:59 MSK) and attach a package of the following documents:
*Priority during the selection process is given to applicants who have not previously participated in the Primakov Readings Youth Session.
- a report on one of the above-mentioned topics of discussions according to the standard: from 10,000 to 13,000 characters with spaces, .docx format, Times New Roman text font, size 14, 1.0 spacing). The report should be written in Russian or English and contain references to sources;
- a letter of recommendation issued by the university / institute / organization (.pdf, .jpg, .png);
- additional documents characterising you as a specialist suitable for participation in the project (scientific papers, CVs, etc.);
- a full-face photograph (for the participant information brochure).

Suggested topics for reports
The modern world is in a process of global transformation. The rivalry of major powers is increasing, new formats of cooperation are emerging, conflicts are escalating, new centres of economic power are developing, competition in innovation is intensifying, and the energy transition is under way. All these processes are intertwined and influence each other. At the Primakov Readings Youth Session we propose to analyse the changes taking place and to discuss whether we are witnessing the decline of globalisation or its new stage.
Since January 2024, Russia has taken over the BRICS presidency. Today, BRICS covers 30% of the global territory, including more than 40% of world population, more than 30% of global GDP and a quarter of international trade. The association’s enlargement has contributed building up a just world order. What role does BRICS play in creating a new system of international relations and addressing pressing issues on the global agenda? What opportunities for cooperation would potential and existing BRICS member countries enjoy?
The processes in Greater Eurasia are increasingly affecting the emerging world order. Bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the macro-region purports to create a common space of security and development. During the session, participants will examine the key factors determining the economic and political processes of integration in Greater Eurasia and identify possible development strategies to achieve harmonious cooperation.

The rapid development of the Global South has elevated its significance in the analysis contemporary socio-political and economic problems. At the same time, impressive achievements are accompanied by alarming trends that require meticulous attention of researchers. Evgeniy Primakov, a prominent Soviet and Russian statesman and scholar, devoted his life to studying the problems of developing countries and analyzing their place in the world economy and politics. North-South and South-South cooperation: which format is more efficient? Are they mutually exclusive or complementary? What are the determinants of development for the countries of the Global South?
The role of individual African countries and the African continent as a whole is becoming increasingly remarkable, with world powers holding major summits and Africa itself taking initiatives of both a regional and global scale. At the same time, the continent faces a unique set of challenges, including poverty, environmental issues, political instability, health and education. Moreover, Africa is also home to significant development opportunities, abundant natural resources and a growing market. During this session, its participants will discuss both external and internal factors that affect Africa’s processes. What global goals is Africa pursuing? What obstacles does it face in achieving them? What is the role of external actors and does the continent need intermediaries to resolve its problems?
Today technology is a key factor in redistribution of power in the global arena. Access (or lack thereof) to advanced technologies determines the place in the world economy, which in the long run guarantees high status in global hierarchy. Competition in this field has already provoked attempts to limit the development and dissemination of alternative technological solutions. On the other hand, there are risks linked to the use of new technological opportunities, such as cybersecurity threats, negative effects of labor automation and the exhaustion of growth factors of the current technological cycle.
The panelists are welcome to touch on the following issues: what role does technological confrontation play in world politics? Do artificial intelligence and other breakthrough technologies bring unprecedented opportunities or pose a new threat? Can technology assist humanity in coping with the challenges it faces?
