The role of individual African countries and the African continent as a whole is becoming increasingly remarkable, with world powers holding major summits and Africa itself taking initiatives of both a regional and global scale. At the same time, the continent faces a unique set of challenges, including poverty, environmental issues, political instability, health and education. Moreover, Africa is also home to significant development opportunities, abundant natural resources and a growing market. During this session, its participants will discuss both external and internal factors that affect Africa’s processes. What global goals is Africa pursuing? What obstacles does it face in achieving them? What is the role of external actors and does the continent need intermediaries to resolve its problems?
