The Influence of External Players in the Middle East Discussed at RIAC Conference

Today, the Russian International Affairs Council is hosting a conference titled Non-Regional Actors in the Middle East, dedicated to analyzing the strategies of external powers and their role in shaping the region’s political agenda.

The second session was moderated by Ruslan Mamedov, Scientific Adviser of the Primakov Center and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, RAS Institute of Oriental Studies.

Among the speakers:

  • Andrey Evseenko, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute for US and Canadian Studies
  • Vasily Kashin, Director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies, Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University
  • Petr Topychkanov, Head of the Sector for New Challenges in South and Southeast Asia at IMEMO
  • Andrey Zeltin, Senior Lecturer at the School of Asian Studies, Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University

The experts analyzed how non-regional actors — primarily the US and China — impact the development of regional conflicts, assessed their approaches to conflict resolution, and examined their role in transforming the regional security architecture.
