The IV Educational Mission to Vienna Has Launched

On April 13, the Educational Mission to Vienna, organized by the Primakov Center with the support of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the International Organizations in Vienna, officially began. The fourth cohort of the program has brought together young professionals from across Russia interested in an in-depth study of nuclear non-proliferation, disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear technologies.

This year, the selection process was highly competitive, with 18 applicants per place. Applications were received from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Barnaul, Donetsk People’s Republic, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel, Penza, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol, Tomsk, Ufa, Vladivostok, Volgograd, and Yekaterinburg

Welcome remarks were delivered by Viktoriia Karslieva, Executive Director of the Primakov Center, and Roman Ustinov, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the International Organizations in Vienna.

“In the context of growing tensions in the international arena, programs of this kind are becoming increasingly important. They contribute to the development of professionals capable of thoughtfully addressing the modern challenges and contributing to sustainable international dialogue,” Viktoriia Karslieva emphasized.

During the first lecture, Roman Ustinov spoke about how multilateral diplomacy functions, who actually makes decisions, and which mechanisms shape the architecture of global security.

“You are about to explore a wide range of topics — from multilateral diplomacy to global security issues. Yet behind all of them lies a simple idea: effective international cooperation is impossible without mutual respect. This is where any sustainable agreement begins,” Roman Ustinov noted.

Participants will attend a series of 16 lectures delivered by leading Russian and international experts. Then they will prepare an analytical paper and present their own perspective on the issues discussed. The best authors will travel to Vienna to engage with international organizations and research centers.
