On July 31, the Primakov Center hosted a presentation of policy brief by Dr. Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on the future of Russia–Algeria relations. The author offers a fresh perspective on what unites Moscow and Algiers and what horizons lie ahead.
“Russian-Algerian relations: more than they seem, less than desired”
The paper explores why, despite a solid historical foundation, the partnership between the two countries is not developing as dynamically as it could. The author addresses differences in Moscow and Algiers’ foreign policy priorities, analyzes the significance of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership, and assesses the real prospects for expanding cooperation. Special emphasis is placed on how the new generations of elites could give the relationship an additional boost.
