The Primakov Center Presented Policy Brief on Syrian Reconstruction

On September 11, the Primakov Center hosted an expert seminar featuring the presentation of our new policy brief prepared by Alexander Aksenenok, Ph.D. in Law, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia, and Vice President of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).

"Syrian Reconstruction in a Changing Regional Context: Challenges and Opportunities"

Despite the formal conclusion of the active phase of the civil war, Syria continues to face numerous challenges. The author of the theses analyzes the country's post-war reconstruction, examining it through the prism of external and internal factors. According to the expert, the situation in and around Syria is not conducive to overcoming the crisis in which the country's economy finds itself.

He pays particular attention to Syria's relations with regional actors. For instance, Moscow and Tehran continue their economic cooperation with Damascus; however, the capabilities of these two countries are insufficient to restore the Syrian economic system.
