Primakov Center Presents Analytical Paper on Russia-Saudi Arabia Relations

On December 13, the Primakov Center hosted a presentation of an analytical paper titled "Russia and Saudi Arabia in the New World Order" by Nikolay Surkov, Ph.D. in Political Science and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies of IMEMO.

The author analyzes Saudi Arabia's multi-vector foreign policy under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, focusing on its key priorities—modernization, strengthening regional stability, and fostering ties with the Global South. According to the expert, this approach is based on a recognition of the multipolar nature of the modern world and the need for diversifying alliances.

The expert paid particular attention to Saudi Arabia’s participation in BRICS as an opportunity to advance the interests of developing countries, as well as its cooperation with Russia in energy and regional security.

The paper is available here.

Following the presentation, the Primakov Center held an expert seminar discussing Turkey's geopolitical role in the region and its relations with the Gulf countries, particularly in light of the evolution of security architecture and the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.

The seminar brought together leading Russian experts on Middle East from the Institute of Oriental Studies, HSE University, MGIMO, RSUH, and IMEMO.
